Sunday School: The Art of Food Preserving, Tomatoes

Tomatoes are arguably one of the greatest garden gifts. In this class, we will go over what type of tomatoes are better for sauce, how to process the tomatoes, and then we’ll make a basic sauce that is canned for future use. It is such a joy to open your own preserved sauce on a winter’s night knowing that you were the source of your dinner. Students will also learn how a steam juicer works for shelf-stable homemade tomato juice. Eric and Sara love enjoying a tomato cocktail or Bloody Marys from homemade tomato juice! Students will enjoy a glass of Durant wine while learning all about preserving tomatoes, and leave with directions to successfully preserve their own abundant tomato patch for a variety of uses.
