Durant’s Olio Nuovo Festival is back in 2021 and this year we are celebrating all November long! For the safety of guests and staff, we have expanded our three-day festival to a month-long celebration. Taste and purchase this season’s freshly milled Olio Nuovo (new oil) extra virgin olive oil and take a tour of the Durant Olive Mill to see how premium olive oil is made at Oregon’s only commercial olive mill.
Find holiday inspiration at the Red Ridge Farms Nursery – filled with natural greens for decorating/crafting, artisan-made wreaths, one-of-a-kind pottery, and unique growing gifts. The Gift Shop has been doubled in size to fit even more Durant olive oil, wine, culinary goods, gift boxes, local food, art, cookbooks, houseplants, holiday decor, and so much more!
The Durant Vineyards Wine Tasting Clubhouse has been transformed into a local marketplace with like-minded food producers, live music, and food carts each weekend in November from 10 AM – 4 PM.

Experience the only Olioteca in Oregon, Durant Olive Mill. This daily guided tour offers a succinct history of our farm, an exploration into growing olives in the NW, and a guided look at the process of making award-winning extra virgin olive oil. You may even catch a glimpse of the mill in operation and be able to taste fresh olio still warm from the mill!* This tour is leisurely and will conclude with a casual olio nuovo extra virgin olive oil tasting in the Red Ridge Farms Gift Shop.
*Our milling schedule is based on the arrival or harvest of fresh olives and cannot be predicted. Active milling cannot be guaranteed, but is a special surprise if it is happening!

Cooking with high-quality, freshly milled olio nuovo is a one-of-a-kind experience. This fresh, fragrant, bright green oil is left unfiltered, allowing the notable flavors of extra virgin olive oil to shine. Each variety of oil has its own unique flavor profile and can be used in any dish calling for extra virgin olive oil. At this cooking series, you will learn, from the pros, how to incorporate our “liquid gold” into your everyday cooking. After each class, guests will dine on the items prepared in class, enjoy Durant Vineyards wines, and the company of your classmates in our cozy Durant Olive Mill kitchen/event space.

Join Leta Merrill, chef and pasta maker for an evening of mixing, rolling, shaping, and eating delicious handmade pasta! Leta was first immersed in the world of handmade pasta when she landed a job at Union Square Café in New York City. Her study of pasta broadened over the years as she connected with other pasta enthusiasts all over the globe. She began teaching pasta workshops in 2018, and couldn’t be more thrilled to be able to host in-person events once again. With a passion for local ingredients, quality flour, and a nod to the preservation of traditional methods and techniques, Leta is thrilled to bring her love of pasta to others.
Together we’ll explore the hand-formed pasta tradition of Southern Italy. This hands-on experience will include everything from the mixing of dough to shaping, storing, and cooking pasta. Guests will then be treated to a pasta dinner prepared by Leta featuring Durant Olive Mill’s Olio Nuovo and other local and seasonal ingredients. Guests will leave with their own freshly made pasta, dough and sauce recipes, and their chins dripping with Durant’s brilliant Olio Nuovo.

Chef/Instructor Megan Barrie (Seasoned Cook) has a lifetime of experience with Japanese home cooking and is delighted to bring a not-so-traditional ingredient, olio nuovo, to this Japanese “tapas” class. Megan will take a fresh approach to utilize this traditionally Mediterranean ingredient with flavorful dishes like Fall Vegetable Gyoza, Kushiyaki (grilled skewers), and Miso Roasted Sweet Potato, her seasonal play on patatas bravas.

Native Florentine Chef Paolo Calamai offered traditional dishes and experiences from his beloved food cart (named 2014 Food Cart of the Year by Willamette Week) turned popular SE Portland restaurant Burrasca from 2014 to 2021. After a rocky 2020 Calamai made the difficult decision to close the doors to Burrasca in January of 2021. Calamai has since turned his attention to a new home delivery lasagna business and teaching cooking classes like this one!
Chef Paolo will teach you how to make Tuscany’s olio season classic, Pinzimonio, which consists of raw seasonal cruditiės served with a simple olio nuovo, salt, and pepper dip. Next, he will lead you through creating another quintessentially Tuscan appetizer called Crostone di cavolo nero, which is toasted Tuscan bread topped with sautéed lacinato kale and finished with olio nuovo. The evening’s main course and demonstration will be Pici all’aglione, a traditional Tuscan hand-rolled pasta with a simple yet flavorful garlicky tomato-based pasta sauce finished, of course, with more fresh olio. For dessert, you will learn to make a torta all’olio, or olive oil cake.

Join us on Saturday, November 13th, 20th, or 27th for a Durant-style happy hour featuring freshly shucked Pacific Oysters, drizzled with an olio nuovo mignonette, and served with our brand new Durant Vineyards release of 2018 Brut Sparkling Wine!
Local foraging and culinary authorities, the Wilderness Hunters, will be shucking this Pacific Northwest delicacy under the glow of roaring fire pits and the gentle hum of the Durant Olive Mill*.
Each ticket includes three freshly harvested Pacific Oysters topped with an olio nuovo mignonette and a glass of Durant Vineyards 2018 Brut. Additional oysters, sparkling wine, and olio nuovo will be available for purchase.

An introductory tasting of Durant Olive Mill’s estate-milled olio nuovo extra virgin olive oils using official blue competition tasting glasses. Your tasting will include a guided tour of the Durant Olive Mill and the adjoining olive grove where we will articulate what “extra virgin olive oil” really means and the steps we take to produce our high-quality, award-winning olive oils. An engaging and educational experience, the Official Blue Glass Tasting will help you better understand how to recognize a quality extra virgin olive oil, its many health benefits, and appreciate the complex flavor profiles found in our oils.

Our take on a classic cornucopia includes grapevines, moss, pumpkins, and live wire vine. Display on your Thanksgiving table or as welcoming decor on your front porch or patio! Please bring a pair of heavy-duty gloves and needle nose pliers as we will be creating with wire.

Do your summer hanging baskets need a holiday refresh for upcoming celebrations? Join us as we help you create a beautiful evergreen focal point for your porch or patio. We will provide an array of foliage, branches, and stems, many harvested from right here on our farm, so you can make your very own eye-catching display. Class includes instructions, supplies, and your finished creation to take home. This workshop is held outdoors (in the heated tent behind the Gift Shop) and will not be canceled due to weather, please dress accordingly.
COVID-19 Safety Considerations
The 2021 Olio Nuovo Festival and sub-events will comply with the most current guidance from the Oregon Health Authority. Updated details will be posted as new information and guidelines are put in place. All Olio Nuovo Festival/Durant/Red Ridge Farms staff and participants will adhere to current Oregon Health Authority Guidelines to ensure the safety of our team and our guests.
Masks or face coverings are required for all guests, employees, vendors, and visitors. This includes outdoor venues and walking paths.
We have extended the festival from the traditional three-day event to smaller events throughout the month of November. This expanded festival will allow us to better accommodate reduced capacities, social distancing, and also ease the burden on reduced staff. Most events will be held entirely outdoors, or in areas with proper ventilation in accordance with local and national guidelines. Social distancing efforts will be in place at all events as well as ample handwashing and hand sanitizing stations for guests and participants.
Our flagship Olio Nuovo Tasting and Food Pairing event has been discontinued and olio tasting will take place in a well-ventilated tent at the Red Ridge Farms Gift Shop.
Registration and the arrival experience at sub-event venues will be as contactless as possible. Digital ticket scanning will be utilized at all events. All attendees will receive updated health and safety information prior to the events and as they evolve.
